We are looking for a high performing Programme Manager to help us ensure the effective delivery of the policy aspects of the ambitious programmes relating to climate change and sustainable land use that the Government has committed to.  Reporting to the director, Land, Water and Climate policy, you will be leading the effort of project managers and supporting the policy managers working across the directorate and beyond. The role also liaises with and supports communications between key internal and external stakeholders.

As an experienced Programme Manager, you will bring:

  • Strong Project/Programme planning and management skills
  • Good understanding of environmental policy and primary industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in information and data management and information recall
  • Ability to plan, set priorities and meet deadlines, and to see and understand the big picture while still demonstrating careful attention to detail
  • Facilitation and liaison skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Our work programme covers the primary sector perspective on New Zealand’s overall policy choices to mitigate climate change emissions, forestry as a key sector to offset emissions, sustainable land use support tools and advice on how to support the primary sector to adapt to a changing climate. All our advice is informed by policy research, economic analysis, and system design with a strong focus on implementation.  

We work across government and in partnership with iwi, regions, sectors and communities to empower the primary sector and rural communities to reduce risks and realise opportunities associated with a changing climate (both biophysical and regulatory) and improve kaitiakitanga. 

We are a dedicated and focused team, and we work collaboratively with each other in a collegial and supportive atmosphere.
