Programme Manager – Readiness Programmes Team


Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the Role

The Readiness Programmes team plays a key role to MPI’s wider readiness function. The mission is to ensure MPI has the people, resources, processes and systems to manage all threats to the food, biosecurity and primary production systems. The team oversees a programme of work which focuses on improving our overall readiness capability and developing and maintaining generic readiness to support and enable all readiness and response activities.

In this role you’ll:

  • Plan, lead, manage and deliver allocated technology based projects and programmes
  • Contribute to the development of the team business plan
  • Provide advice on risks and opportunities, analysis of data, formulation and presentation of options for decision-making
  •  Report accurately and effectively on project and programme progress
  • Collaborate on organisational projects, share information and practices, and coordinate across work programmes
  • Sustain partnerships to ensure effective delivery of readiness activities

Are you passionate about protecting New Zealand and reducing the impact biosecurity incursions and other threats have on our country? Do you have a good understanding of how Government works? Are you an experienced programme manager looking to make a difference? And are you keen to work across and with a variety of groups and branches of MPI? Then this is a great opportunity for you!

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • 5-10 years leading, managing and delivering complex projects and programmes
  • Experience working to diverse and challenging governance groups
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence
  • Cross organisation stakeholder engagement
  • Sound knowledge of the biosecurity system and how Government works
  • Have a graduate qualification in a relevant discipline alongside a project or programme management qualification
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team in ambiguous work environments

About the Branch

Biosecurity New Zealand has a critical role in preventing harmful organisms crossing New Zealand’s borders. Along with preparing for and responding to biosecurity incursions, it also manages border and compliance activities, diagnostics and surveillance activities and MPI’s centralised intelligence, planning and co-ordination group.

Salary range for this role is $91k to $107k depending on skills and experience and a January start date.
