The New Zealand Public Service Association (PSA) has raised a claim in Public Service departments and a small number of other State sector agencies, for clerical and administrative employees.

Chief executives of the agencies affected, and the PSA, have indicated a preference to manage the claims in a coordinated way, and we are putting together a cross agency team to support that work.

The claim presents an exciting opportunity to be part of a programme of work which will make a difference in the lives of public servants.

The Government is committed to pay equity, which means women and men who perform work of the same value should be paid the same, even though their jobs may be different. Principles have been developed to guide the claim process by employer, union and government representatives, and the process is based on New Zealand’s existing employment relations framework. This claim is unique and complex given the breadth of roles, the range of separate employers and the variety of collective agreements involved. The work programme will require a team that will build long term relationships, be able to work at pace, juggle complex and varied work, and work effectively with people from a range of professional disciplines.

The cross-agency team will be responsible for the management of the claim on behalf of the agencies in line with the Principles process.  This work will include programme management and reporting, conducting work and remuneration assessments of the work of the claimant and potential comparator groups, and negotiation of a pay equity settlement should these assessments identify sex-based undervaluation. 

This role will join an existing Claim Manager and Researcher who have begun work on the process. A Lead Negotiator will also be appointed to the team.

A fixed term and/or secondment appointment will be made into this position. The duration of the process is uncertain but is likely to be between 2-3 years.

This position usually pays between $154,960 to $203,385 depending on skills and experience.
