  • Summary:

Join our team’s quest to take on New Zealand’s waste and recycling problems!

About the Role

We have an exciting Project Coordinator role available in our dynamic and fast expanding Waste and Resource Efficiency division. New Zealand is a hugely wasteful nation – one of the worst in the OECD.  Waste causes harm to our environment, which is why our national system of incentives, investment and regulation is going through a major overhaul.  New Zealanders are concerned about waste – for example plastic waste rates as one of the top issues that New Zealanders are most worried about, every year.

This role is focused on coordination and research support shared across two teams – Waste Infrastructure and Investment, and Waste and Resource Efficiency Policy. In this role you will provide support to these two teams to help them deliver their work programmes more efficiently.

The role will be part administrative / coordination in nature, but also has potential for a research and writing component for special projects to be driven by shared team priorities.  For example, the work will include coordination support to our major infrastructure investment and policy teams, but will also help in responding to frequent queries from the public about the team’s work programmes or drafting responses to Official Information Act.

The role may appeal to experienced coordinators, as well as recent graduates or those with a few years of work experience, who have a passion for the environment.

Skills and Experience

Our ideal candidate will bring:

  • experience with programme and project coordination methodologies
  • a strong customer focus with an exceptional eye for detail
  • the ability to see the big picture across a complex work programme, and keep all the individual parts connected and moving in the same direction
  • excellent organisation and planning skills
  • research and writing experience – with good written and verbal communication skills
  • a high level of initiative, sound judgement and discretion
  • strong communication and relationship management skills
  • adeptness with technology / systems savvy
  • a “can do” attitude within a team environment and a solutions focused approach to problem solving
  • curiosity and openness to develop Te Ao Māori.
