The Ara Planning Office is part of Ara’s Corporate Services Division and supports Ara to successfully deliver the major programmes and projects mandated and prioritised by the executive management team (TKM) that enable the organisation’s strategic intentions. Primarily, the Transformation Programme (People, Business and IT Projects), the Regional Master Planning and other business process and systems improvement projects. Additionally, to provide business analysis and project management guidance and support to BAU teams delivering projects within their areas of operation.

An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Project Manager to join the Planning Office and utilise your skills on a wide range of high-profile Business Process and Information Systems projects. Also, to provide business consulting, support, expertise and experience to other enterprise-wide, divisional or tertiary sector-wide initiatives aimed at improving the business systems and processes at Ara.

The Role

As part of the Planning Office function, this role will involve engagement with a diverse range of projects. This is a multi-dimensional role that has these core functions:

  • In the role of an Ara Project Manager, contribute to the successful delivery of a wide range of projects and initiatives across the entire organisation, primarily projects from the Transformation Programme, but also non-Transformation Programme projects, divisional initiatives, partnership implementations and cross-sector initiatives. Current projects are in the area of; People and Culture, Electronic Enrolment Processing, Digital Engagement Capabilities, Predictive Analytics for Learners, Intranet/Team Productivity and Student Retention and Achievement.
  • Provide project management, business process knowledge, support, expertise and experience both to Ara wide initiatives, and in support of divisional or sector initiatives, for the improvement of business systems and processes.


  • Requires a multi-skilled person who is capable of taking a project from inception to completion.  Required work ranges from senior level engagement, to day to day management of the project, vendor/partner selection and management, working with the in-house business analysts to understand and document current processes, identify process improvements, document business requirements and develop business cases. Work with ICT teams in developing solutions and business teams in implementing them.


  • Strong proven experience in Project Management
  • Proven ability to quickly understand strategic intent, business issues, and information challenges, outline options and make recommendations
  • A broad skill set including stakeholder engagement, Change Management, Project Management, requirements gathering and vendor selection
  • Well-honed communication skills with ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders, team members, internal customers and vendors alike
  • Experience with project management methodologies (PMBOK, Prince2)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to clearly understand the business needs.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Manages client expectations effectively.
