The role

will take the lead in development and delivery of the detailed mine designs for the proposed Gladstone and expanded Martha open pits. Including, development sequencing, equipment selection, contracting strategy, operational readiness systems and competency requirements, technical organisational structure and operational ramp up phases, through to full capacity production.This is to be achieved by engaging with Waihi operational leadership collaboratively to deliver, a world class open pit mine.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Establish and lead a project management team of direct reports and specialist consultants
  • Lead the production and implementation of the proposed Project Quattro strategy to international best practice standards
  • Coordinate the assessment and recommendations on various open pit mining options
  • Lead the strategic planning of project delivery elements to align the open pit mining strategy with other Waihi operations
  • Lead the integration of safety, environmental, cultural, community and social aspects into the project design
  • Produce a robust project plan and sequencing for operational readiness preparation
  • In preparation for mine development, and should consents be granted, develop and implement the recruitment strategy and competency training systems for open pit workforce
  • Coordinate an equipment selection and mobilisation strategy to meet mine ramp up requirements
  • Forward planning to identify and manage gaps and risks in studies, concurrent permitting processes and stakeholder expectations
  • Ensure key value drivers, risks and mitigation strategies are identified, reviewed and implemented
  • Manage the resolution of any complex technical issues that arise
  • Exercise budgetary and variation control to ensure costs are managed in alignment with corporate guidelines
  • Proactive involvement in stakeholder engagement in all project phases
  • Oversee the contracting strategy, schedule and costs for implementation of the proposed mine development
  • The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Mining Engineer Degree or similar qualification
  • Project Management professional
  • 10 years open pit mine management experience, ideally with recent ramp up or operational readiness leadership
  • Exposure to Australian or New Zealand mining regulations highly desirable
  • Long term involvement in a leadership position in a Project Management or Major Project Study role highly desirable
  • Experience in heavy equipment selection studies highly desirable
  • Proven capability in managing specialised contractors and consultants across multiple work fronts
