We are seeking applications from Registered Psychologists for a unique and exciting opportunity within the New Zealand Police Behavioural Science Unit.  The Unit is based in Ellerslie, Auckland but consults to Police throughout the country.  The core hours are Monday to Friday. You will work in a small, dedicated and high performing team alongside the Unit’s other Psychologist to help advance Police investigations by providing operational psychology advice.  You will help Police to better understand criminal behaviour and the personalities of the people they deal with.  You will consult to high-profile, complex and difficult to solve investigations, where the circumstances are often distressing and the material graphic.  You will help provide profiles of unidentified offenders, complete indirect personality assessments and conduct risk assessments across multiple domains.  You may be asked to prepare and give presentations to Police staff on topics within your scope of practice.  The work is challenging, diverse, and interesting.  It requires someone who is self-motivated, diligent, inquisitive and professional.

 

Education:

  • You will be a registered Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board

 

Skills. You will be able to:

  • Prepare logical and reasoned written and oral reports within reasonable time frames
  • Develop and deliver presentations
  • Provide evidence based strategic/expert psychology advice to Police
  • Provide expert evidence in court within scope of practice
  • Analyse and respond to complex written information

 

Experience. You will have:

  • Experience working in a forensic setting or with offender populations
  • Experience with preparing risk assessments

 

Special Requirement:

  • Successful Applicant must reside in Auckland
