About the role
Are you a public health physicians, other medical specialists, or medical practitioner experienced in surveillance system operation and/or surveillance-based epidemiology (including senior public health medicine registrars or recent graduates)? We would also be interested in the possibility of secondments. Do you have a particular interest in surveillance-based epidemiology or emergency response?
We are looking for specialists and practitioners who have these backgrounds especially in response or team leadership positions. You will be providing professional advice and expertise to public health units (PHUs) and the Ministry of Health on the surveillance, investigation, prevention and control of health events of public health importance. As a public health physician you will draw on your medical expertise to support ESR’s role in outbreak management and control of infectious diseases.

About you
You’ll hold current registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, and ideally be registered in public health medicine (or be working towards this registration). Ideally you’ll have experience in working across agencies and navigating through the wider public sector, and have a knack for building effective and enduring relationships.
Our team is busy and working across multiple activities; you’ll be adept at juggling multiple tasks and be comfortable working in an environment where no day is ever the same.
