The Hauraki District is looking for a skilled and knowledgeable person to join their biodiversity team.

This is a permanent position which will have a focus on leading Species and Wetland Ecosystem related biodiversity work within our team. 

He angitūtanga: About the Role

Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Wetland management and restoration
  • Coastal Ecosystem management and restoration
  • Biosecurity Response eg. Myrtle Rust
  • Kauri Protection
  • Biodiversity related compliance eg. illegal grazing and drainage.
  • Threatened species monitoring/protection for native bats, frogs and bittern, shorebirds, threatened plants, invertebrates and wetland plants
  • Woody weed and general weed control work
  • Working with iwi and Regional Council over joint areas of interest
  • Impacts on species and ecosystem health due to intensive farming and water quality issues
  • Networking with other specialists from Research institutes and NGO’s
  • Co-ordination of seasonal contracts

    • Your background should include:

  • Strong and proven team project management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work as part of a close team
  • Conservation work experience in species and Ecosystem related biodiversity work

    The ideal applicant will:

  • Have a tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience in biodiversity
  • Have knowledge and experience in planning and organising complex projects, Ecosystem and/or species related biodiversity work
  • Have proven specialist skills and experience in biodiversity management in particular, Have suitable technical skills for collecting and recording data, GIS mapping and reporting
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be able to maintain positive working relationships across a broad range of people and groups
  • Fit into the culture of the Hauraki team
