This is fixed term role for 2 years.

We have an opportunity available for a passionate conservation minded professional with great people skills to work in our Biodiversity Team.

 

As a Ranger, Biodiversity, you will be part of a highly motivated Team with responsibilities for:

  • Organising and leading animal pest control programmes for the District
  • Ecosystem restoration including working within the Departments Battle for Our Birds programme
  • Processing pesticide applications and undertaking audits of pesticide use
  • Promoting conservation, lifting awareness and educating others on the value of conservation and ecosystem services
  • Supporting joint venture projects with businesses, community groups, and iwi
  • Undertake other Biodiversity work across the region as required

 

The ideal applicant will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, or relevant experience in NZ ecology and experience in pest management
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about conservation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong networker, with positive working relationships across a broad range of public and private sector businesses and groups
  • Knowledge and experience in planning and organising projects
  • A full Drivers licence is essential.

 

Your skills and experience in natural heritage work will be vitally important in guiding others on the ground and for teaching, supporting and/or overseeing rangers, contractors, community groups and volunteers doing conservation work

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
