An exciting opportunity has become available for a Ranger with a focus on kauri protection within the Community team. This is a full time Fixed Term contract that runs through to June 30, 2021.

The successful candidate will be based in the Thames office on the beautiful Coromandel and will support kauri protection and advocacy across the Hauraki District.

 

He angitūtanga: About the Role

This role offers variety and flexibility and the opportunity to make a difference in protecting our precious taonga. Some of the expectations are:

  • advocate for kauri protection, leading education and behaviour change.
  • manage and build relationships with other agencies, iwi and community groups.
  • work with stakeholders to promote and implement kauri dieback mitigation measures in line with developments in kauri protection
  • oversee the team of Kauri Protection “Track Ambassadors” over the peak season
  • identify off track users
  • survey track users and monitoring wash stations
  • work with local Operations teams between districts and regions to provide proactive advice, raise significant issues to support the decision makers processes
  • development of kauri management plans
  • administration of grants/contracts for cultural significance of kauri

We are looking for an awesome team player! You will have a genuine interest and passion for conservation and an enthusiasm for engaging and working in partnership with whanau, hapu, and iwi.

As the work delivery requirements are varied for this role there is a need for flexibility. Work in the backcountry and/or outside normal working hours is also an expectation so an appropriate level of fitness is required.

  • An enthusiastic team player 
  • An understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and knowledge of tikanga
  • Computer and technologically savvy
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills (written and oral)
  • A good level of fitness
  • A full NZ drivers’ licence, class 1
