Are you someone who is passionate about the conservation of New Zealand’s natural flora and fauna, skilled at Nursery work, and passionate about sharing your skills and knowledge with others?  If yes, then this is the job for you.


As a Ranger, Biodiversity, with DOC’s Nursery at Motukarara, you will be joining our talented Biodiversity teams carrying out critical natural heritage conservation work programmes across the country.


Your day to day work will include assisting with plant propagation and general Nursery tasks, seed collection and providing advice to Nursery customers and local community groups according to work plans.


The successful applicant will have:

  • a qualification in horticulture or equivalent experience in Nursery work
  • an understanding of conservation and how it contributes to New Zealand’s future sustainability
  • the ability to plan and organise work and to meet timeframes
  • an understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • a current driver’s licence
  • a good level of physical fitness.  Some back-country experience would be an advantage
  • having a current Approved Handlers and/or First Aid Certificate will be an advantage


Because of the nature of this role the successful applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment health questionnaire and undertake a medical examination. It will also be a requirement that the successful applicant’s health be monitored in relation to any hazards encountered on the job.
