Our Purpose: Why we do it
When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, youre part of something very special. We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 New Zealanders that live in the Canterbury region. Our primary goal is to put people at the heart of everything we do.
The Team: What we do
Tupuna is a 15 bed Extended Care inpatient unit on the Hillmorton Hospital. We provide mental, complex physical and medical health care for patients from 25 to 70 years of age. Tupuna’s admissions come from the four adult inpatient acute inpatient units on the Hillmorton site. This is due to the patient requiring further hospital treatment, before moving home or to the community. Our multidisciplinary team includes hospital aids; nurses; consultant psychiatrist; occupational therapist; pukenga atawhai, psychologist and a social worker. Our aim is to work in collaboration and partnership with consumers and family/whanau, to develop therapeutic, supportive and empowering relationships with consumers, to enable them to leave hospital and live successfully in the community.
The Role: Where you fit in
There is one full-time, fixed-term (ending 12/10/21) 0.94 FTE Registered Nurse position, and one part-time, fixed-term Enrolled Nurse position, ending 14/09/21 at 0.47 FTE (covering paternity leave).
These positions would suit motivated nurses who have, or who would like to develop their psychiatric and medical skills, within a supportive team environment. Good communication, interpersonal and documentation skills, along with a compassionate nature will see you excel in this area. For Enrolled Nurses, you will be keen to follow direction and be open to receive guidance from the registered nurses within your team. The positions are based on a rotating roster (i.e. four days on, two days off for 0.94 FTE, or two days on, four days off for 0.47 FTE), thus flexibility across all shifts – morning, afternoon, and night shifts – is imperative. A comprehensive staff orientation package is provided. Previous Mental health experience is essential.
If you have a current NZ Registered Nursing Practising Certificate that includes a scope of practice for Mental Health, then this could be the new career challenge for you.
