Who are we
Maritime NZ is the national regulatory, compliance and response agency operating in the maritime sector for the safety, security and environmental protection of maritime waters.
The Regulatory Policy Team The Regulatory Policy Team includes three units that work across the maritime transport system – including central government, local government, the commercial sector, industry organisations, NGO’s and the recreational boating sector. We have co-located our policy, guidance, and service design units in the regulatory policy team to improve our regulatory stewardship. The units work together to design and implement modern legislation to keep mariners and their passengers safe, and to help protect the marine environment.
Each unit has a specific focus:
Policy Design Unit (1 Principal Policy Advisor; 1 Senior Policy Advisor) : We undertake policy investigations to review, develop and design the Maritime and Marine Protection Rules to ensure the system delivers safe, secure and clean outcomes. Please note these roles will be seconded to a multi-year project to help reform the rules for the design, construction and equipment required for New Zealand domestic ships.
Guidance Design Unit (2 Senior Guidance Design Advisors) : We create well researched and written guidance to inform and support regulated parties and the wider maritime sector to do the right thing, reduce harm and to learn from good practice and from real world incidents.
Service Design Unit (1 Senior Service Design Advisor and 1 Service Design Advisor): We work with internal teams and other experts to turn legislation into reality, to identify systems changes and create useful procedures, forms, checklists and other materials for Maritime NZ staff and regulated parties to use in their daily work. Staff are appointed to a particular unit but will have opportunities to work across the team.
All roles need people who enjoy working in a team environment and have:
