The Sectors and Skills team works with many New Zealand businesses to help ensure they have access to migrant skills when not available from the existing New Zealand labour market. We educate employers on how to effectively navigate the immigration system and ensure they are aware of all their obligations as an employer in order to remain compliant.

Accessing skills is considered by many employers as the single biggest issue they face. The Sectors and Skills team plays a significant role in supporting both employers and sectors to overcome this challenge as part of our team’s contribution to shaping and delivering a strong New Zealand economy. The meaningful value of our work is well reflected with the team consistently receiving 95+ percent in annual customer satisfaction results.

The role will be varied and will include visiting and working with employers and external, stakeholders predominantly across the lower north and top of the south islands, working closely across INZ and wider govt agencies, strategizing on effective ways to engage and educate the market on immigration policy and INZ’s processes so employers can effectively use the immigration system in an appropriate way. The role also includes informing and educating wider INZ and MBIE policy on the issues and concerns of the market in its dealings with INZ.

This role will be ideal for someone who is a people person and is wishing to further develop them-selves both professionally and personally – adequate support will be provided to help achieve this.

Skills and Experience:

We are keen to hear from you if you have:

  • a sound knowledge of immigration policy and INZ processes
  • good people skills and a willingness to engage with employers and other stakeholders
  • an empathetic  personality that can find balance between the needs of both employers and INZ in its regulatory role
  • an ability to articulate technical content in a jargon free way that engages and meets the needs of a variety of audiences
  • the ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and to develop trust and credibility with senior managers, staff and key internal and external stakeholders
  • a proactive, can-do attitude with a high level of initiative, sound judgement and discretion
  • highly developed communication and writing skills
  • a strong customer focus
