The Toso Vaka o Manū team are a passionate and driven team because we work in a meaningful and exciting area of growth. The Toso Vaka o Manū (TVOM) programme supports Pacific countries to gain economic and social benefits from remittances and labour mobility (coming to work in New Zealand). The work is extremely rewarding as the success of this program delivers huge impact to the lives of the Pasifika people it touches, by way of the skills and personal growth opportunities they experience and the financial rewards they and their families receive as a result of the work. The programme is an exciting balance of working with New Zealand industry to fill much needed labour and skills shortages and working with Pacific Governments to ensure the benefits of labour mobility are achieved. The programme has had many successes and is increasingly important to the overall bilateral relationships New Zealand has with Pacific countries.

We are currently looking for a Relationship Manager- Facilitation, reporting to the Programme Manager of Toso Vaka o Manū. This is a key role as the Relationship Manager has responsibility for leading projects that deliver employment opportunities to the Pacific, a key output of the overall programme.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for building and developing employment opportunities by working with New Zealand companies and Pacific Governments to match employer demand with Pacific supply. You will develop work activities that support employers to select and recruit Pacific workers, as well as drive demand and new initiatives for further labour mobility opportunities. You will support the Programme Manager and other Relationship Managers to ensure the programme maximises the benefits of labour mobility. You will use your critical thinking to identify opportunities and improve the efficiency of the team as well as be a key contact point for Pacific Governments and the wider work programme.

The role will be varied and you will have the autonomy to develop and progress your own work activities which means you must be an excellent self-manager. You will be a confident communicator as you engage across Government and with industry. It will also require some travel around New Zealand and the Pacific.

Skills and Experience:

We are keen to hear from you if you have:

  • A proven track record of managing and driving complex workloads or projects of work
  • Excellent self-awareness and cultural agility
  • Relevant experience working in the public sector or in the private sector
  • Excellent people skills and a willingness to engage with employers and other stakeholders
  • The ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and to develop trust and credibility with external stakeholders
  • A proactive, can-do attitude with a high level of initiative, sound judgement and discretion
  • Exceptional teamwork and collaborative abilities and a willingness to share knowledge and expertise with others
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • A desire for a role that makes a positive difference to people’s lives.
