The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a key and senior leadership role within ACC, playing both a significant role in our Agile Community as well as leading ACC achieve its outcomes. As a leader in this role you are responsible for ensuring ACC’s Agile, Lean and DevOps approach delivers optimal value for our customers and helps drive continuous improvement in everything we do. Our ARTs include both business and technical teams, tasked with a common mission.

These roles are critical to the success of ACC through leading change and require you to work with members of ACC’s Executive Leaders and Value Stream Owners at a strategic level. It also requires you to work well with a wide variety of people and roles like Product Managers, Agile Coaches, Scrum Masters, and Team Members from across the organisation. It requires you to provide leadership and support to your ART in the adoption of an Agile mindset and practices and you will need to be a strong technical, business management and leadership background to the team.

Key responsibilities of the role and what you need to be successful:

  • Work in partnership with the Product Manager and Architecture to seamlessly deliver the product vision, strategy and roadmap
  • In conjunction with the Product Manager develop the quarterly Programme Increments objectives for presentation to the governance authority and gain funding approval
  • Facilitate the planning process for Programme Increments and the planning event
  • Summarise Programme Increment planning objectives and regularly track progress towards outcomes, addressing impediments as they arise to ensure delivery of value within the PI
  • Coach and guide members of the ART including Product Managers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Team Members to successfully deliver the organisations strategic outcomes in alignment with continuous delivery ways of working.
  • Work with ACC Executive Leaders to turn strategic outcomes into action through the ART
  • Adopt Agile, lean and DevOps ways of work such as transparency, experimentation and self-organisation
  • · Identify opportunities at an enterprise, Value Stream and Agile Release Train level to enhance ACC’s maturity as an agile organisation
  • Lead the ongoing design of the ART to ensure it has the right culture, and resourcing of scrum teams to achieve the ART mission and outcomes. This includes involvement in recruitment and on-boarding of team members, managing contracts with partners
  • Collaborate with Architecture and the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office and other Release Trains to take an enterprise view of change and understand dependent work and enterprise delivery roadmaps
  • In this broad and satisfying role you will inspire and collaborate to create a strong foundation for agile ways of working across ACC
