About the role
The Government has set a target to increase research and development (R&D) expenditure in New Zealand to two per cent of GDP. One of the key initiatives to support this goal is the introduction of the Government’s new R&D Tax Incentive, which will provide a financial incentive (via a tax credit) to businesses to increase the amount they spend on R&D New Zealand.
Callaghan Innovation is partnering with Inland Revenue to deliver the R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI), leveraging each agency’s strengths and perspectives to deliver a high performing R&D service for New Zealand businesses. Callaghan Innovation brings skills in deep scientific and technological knowledge, and an understanding of commercial R&D programmes.
Reporting to the Team Manager, RDTI, the R&D Specialists will be responsible for applying their commercial R&D experience and background to assess RDTI applications, specifically ensuring the R&D component meets the defined criteria.
We are building a new team working collaboratively as part of the ‘core team’ with Inland Revenue. As an expert you will apply your knowledge by critically assessing and making recommendations on applications; supporting the assessment of R&D expenditure and following up on compliance actions. You will work directly with customers in establishing their eligibility for RDTI and supporting them to understand the requirements for their claims.
