Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the Role

We have two current permanent vacancies within our Wellington based Incident Management Team (IMT). Your main focus will be to directly manage and support significant responses. You’ll lead and contribute to responses of major incidents including responsibility for the overall direction. You’ll also provide leadership and assist with decision making for responses by contributing to strategic leadership.

You will also:

  • Ensure that development needs to enhance MPIs response capability and capacity are identified
  • Provide input into response system improvements
  • Contribute to preparedness activities
  • Support and mentor other staff involved in responses.

 

Mōu – About You

You’ll have experience leading, managing and delivering complex responses, projects or programmes. You will be comfortable and experienced working in diverse and challenging situations.

You will be someone who has the ability to maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders who may be participating, impacted or otherwise interested in a response. You’ll also bring confidence and experience dealing with senior leadership.

We are looking for people who are able to lead significant biosecurity, food safety, trade, and adverse event responses. The applicant will also be expected to act as a subject matter expert in our training programme and for Readiness and Response and related projects.

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams in ambiguous work environments
  • Proven ability to use initiative and persevere in order to perform in high pressure situations
  • Excellent communication skills

 

About the Team – Mō tō mātou rōpū

The IMT is part of the Readiness and Response Directorate of the Operations Branch within MPI’s Biosecurity Business Unit.

When a major biosecurity, food, trade or adverse event incident occurs, the IMT assists in mounting a response to minimise the impact and eliminate, reduce or contain the incident. The decision to mount the response remains with the Business Director for each area. Our team provides a cross-MPI advisory and mentoring role on management of major incidents across the four focus areas.

Location and Travel

While the positions are based in Wellington, temporary deployment away from Wellington is possible. This may include temporary placement in the Mycoplasma bovis programme either in Wellington, or the regions, subject to negotiation between the M bovis team and Line Manager.

Salary range for this role is $108K to $127K depending on skills and experience
