What you will do
This position acts as the main point of contact for the Waiouru Military Training Facility (WMTF) and wider Military Camp relating to Health & Safety matters and provides advice and guidance to Commanders, Camp personnel, Unit Safety and Health Coordinators (USHC’s), lodger units, contractors and visitors. The capability is provided to all Waiouru Defence Area (WDA) units and facilities.
What we need
We are seeking a person who is passionate about health and safety; someone who is happy to get out into the business and continue to actively promote a health and safety culture. This is a key position where you will be delivering safety measures which requires exceptional communication and the ability to relate confidently to a wide range of people.
In terms of prior experience you will already have a strong foundation in occupational health and safety and you are perhaps now looking to expand on that knowledge and start to broaden your ability, in what is quite a unique environment.
Ideally you will bring exposure to a wide range of industrial workplaces which has included using risk management principles, auditing, conducting accident/incident investigations and delivering relevant training and presentations. This experience has also provided you with a thorough knowledge of all relevant occupational health and safety legislation including hazardous chemicals (HSNO).
You are self-managing and happy to work independently while also valuing the opportunity to be part of a passionate team of professionals.
A tertiary post graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent academic qualification is needed. Military related qualifications or experience, understanding of HSNO legislation or Test Certifier, professional certification and/or membership of a recognised professional safety organisation is desirable.
Who we are
HQ WMTF, on behalf of Regional Support (Army) and HQ Training and Doctrine Command (NZ), is responsible for the command, control and administration of the Waiouru Defence Area (WDA).
HQ WMTF is also charged with maintaining all stakeholder and local district relationships in order to achieve directed outputs.
