Te Papa stands proud as an iconic national building housing the treasures of our nation and is a vibrant destination for both national and international visitors.

We are now looking for retail stars to join our busy Te Papa Stores operation to work on a Casual, as required basis. You will be working in one of our 3 retail store outlets within Te Papa.  You will be a person who understands how retail supports our visitor experience by providing opportunity for our visitors to take home a memento of Te Papa or New Zealand or purchase a unique gift for someone special, and you enjoy interacting with customers to find out which product will best suit their needs. 

Ideally you will have:

  • Previous experience in a retail environment, ideally from a tourist or gift shop background
  • A passion for customer service and ensuring every interaction is professional, helpful and proactive
  • A desire to learn about all of our products and their associated stories
  • Flexible availability to work over a 7 day roster as we operate 364 days a year
  • Applicants must be available to work casual shifts as rostered over the Friday to Monday period weekly, therefore weekend availability is essential.
  • Previous cashiering experience
  • An understanding of Maori culture and Taonga will be advantageous
