Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Security Manager within the Student and Campus Living team. The role will be responsible for the security and safety of Victoria University of Wellington’s staff, students, visitors and campuses by providing comprehensive security services through a proficient security team and technology including effective  emergency response.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Provide an environment where the University’s community feel safe 24/7
  • Ensure the security of the University’s facilities
  • Lead and develop the security team to be high performing and feel supported
  • Provide an effective emergency/incident response
  • Ensure compliance of the University’s policies and procedures

You will be a motivated and passionate about being part of the behind the scenes action, looking at making a material difference to a community and interested in learning what makes a large vibrant organisation tick and contribute to its daily life.

You will be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes leading and developing teams to provide the required 24/7 service as high performers, while being prepared for any emergency / incident response.

You will thrive in this role with an excellent manner with people, an ability to influence and manage conflict, confidently manage a large workload and being challenged while remaining calm under pressure.

Key requirements: 

  • Extensive experience at a leadership level in security or policing
  • Sound knowledge of legislation relevant to security
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team
  • The ability to communicate precisely and effectively both in writing and verbally
  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior executives and leaders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
