Would you like to be part of a multi-disciplinary, high impact team that works with both policy and service delivery colleagues? We are looking for a high-performing Senior Adviser to join our Demand Management and Revenue team.
There’s never been a more exciting time to work at the Ministry of Transport! Transport is a major sector of the economy and impacts all our lives. As the government’s chief policy adviser on transport, the Ministry has an important strategic leadership role. Key to this is thinking about the levers we have to deliver social, economic, environmental, and health and safety outcomes for all New Zealanders.
About the role
It’s a busy time at the Ministry, and with the Demand Management and Revenue team you’ll be joining a bunch of high-paced, motivated, professional and friendly people.
The Demand Management and Revenue policy team is responsible for advising the government on why and how it should influence transport choices (how, when, and where people travel and freight is transported) and the funding and financing tools for land transport, including road user charges, fuel taxes, congestion pricing and tolling. Some of the projects that the team is working on that you will have the opportunity to get involved in are considering how we should fund transport in the future, providing greater strategic direction on travel demand management, developing guidance on funding tools, and ensuring our road user charges system is fit for purpose.
What you’ll bring
As a Senior Policy Adviser, you will join us from a background where you’ve gained solid experience in leading and steering projects, problem-solving complex policy issues, and assessing options. You’ll be someone who can take all the information on an issue, analyse its facets, and decide on a direction. You will be confident managing programmes of work to ensure efficient, targeted policy analysis and advice is provided to support the delivery of organisation and government goals.
Your strong analytical and communication skills will be complemented by your ability to work collaboratively with others and potentially coach and mentor to build others’ capabilities. We welcome those with an understanding of economic frameworks.
What we offer
There’s a lot of opportunity here. The Ministry of Transport is a small and friendly agency that lends itself to day-to-day variety. You’ll gain exposure across the whole sector because of transport’s significance everywhere, from health to the economy to the environment.
The Salary range for this role is: $93,956 to $130,000 depending on experience.
