Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the Role

  • In this role you’ll plan, manage and deliver allocated projects within the foot and mouth disease preparedness programme and actively contribute to work across the team, MPI and other government agencies.
  • The team oversees a programme of work which focuses on improving our overall readiness capability and developing and maintaining generic readiness to support and enable all readiness and response activities.
  • This role sits within the Readiness Programmes team in the Readiness & Response Services Directorate. This role will support all of the portfolio-based business units within MPI (Fisheries, Biosecurity, Food Safety, and Forestry). In this way readiness is key to MPI’s management of all the major regulatory systems that underpin and support the primary sector.
  • The Readiness Programmes team plays a key role to MPI’s wider readiness function. The mission is to ensure MPI has the people, resources, processes and systems to manage all threats to the food, biosecurity and primary production systems.

 This role would ideally be based in Wellington but for the right candidate, we are happy to consider being based outside of Wellington.


Mōu – About You

  • To be successful in this role you will have had 1-3 years working as a Coordinator or Adviser, with a proven ability to deliver quality advice, guidance and material on time.
  • You are communicative, have persuasive skills and you are an influencer and a coordinator. You will use your skills across a broad range of areas and work across the organisation, particularly the Readiness & Response Services Directorate.
  • You will have sound knowledge of the biosecurity system and how Government works and have a Graduate qualification in a relevant discipline. You will have proven experience in managing relationships with internal stakeholders, including peers.

About the Business Unit

Biosecurity New Zealand has a critical role in preventing harmful organisms crossing New Zealand’s borders. Along with preparing for and responding to biosecurity incursions, it also manages border and compliance activities, diagnostics and surveillance activities and MPI’s centralised intelligence, planning and co-ordination group.

This role is broad banded across D and E which is $75k to $108k depending on skills and experience.
