Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the Role

The Readiness & Response Services Directorate brings together critical capability to effectively prepare for and manage responses, and to co-ordinate recovery and long term management activities across MPI.

Within this, the Response Capability Team is accountable for the delivery of a comprehensive programme of work that includes response people capability, MPI’s exercise programme, response evaluations and debriefs, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to support their on-going holistic readiness work.

This teams mandate spans the entirety of MPI’s business-units – they are our customers – ensuring biosecurity, food, trade and primary production systems are supported to build and maintain their response capability, and are prepared for whatever the threat or response may require.

You will work closely with our response, logistics and learning and development teams to ensure that all projects, activities and processes are developed in consultation with the business, and are fit for purpose – actively leading, managing and delivering the allocated work programme. Really, it’s about ensuring the best potential solutions are analysed and developed to meet our future response capability needs.

We are looking for an out of the box thinker with an ability to see the bigger picture and think of creative and innovative ways for MPI to improve its response readiness. No one day will be the same, whether leading the design and delivery of a new training course with L&D, building and facilitating a training exercise for our industry partners or conducting a debrief and lessons collation for a recent response – this role will constantly challenge you and keep your interest peaked.

You will be passionate about implementing and embedding effective frameworks relating to the development of response capability.

  • An excellent communicator who is highly driven, productive and has the ability to meet deadlines
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to look at complex problems from a broad perspective

  • 5-10 years in a relevant professional role
