Science System Investment and Performance

The Science System Investment and Performance (SSIP) branch makes, manages, assesses and advises on scientific investments to meet New Zealand’s economic, social and environmental goals.

Within the branch we are in a period of growth and the roles available are a mix of permanent and fixed term (or secondment) full time roles.

MBIE is aiming to strengthen its delivery of Vision Mātauranga, and candidates with knowledge and experience in this area are encouraged to apply for these positions.

The role

Reporting to the Chief Science Advisor and providing advice support and guidance across MBIE we are looking for a Senior Advisor to work with our Science team to support and lead overall science policy at MBIE.

Skills and Experience

We are keen to hear from you if you can demonstrate the following:

  • Strong written and verbal communication on complex policy issues
  • Led significant policy projects independently
  • Share knowledge and expertise amongst the team and mentor others
  • An intrest in the outcomes of scientific research
  • Knowledge and application of Vision Matauranga
  • Proven ability to identify strategic risks as well as options to mitigate risks.
  • A working knowledge of, the commercial and/or public sector environments.
  • Credible, respected relationships with diverse stakeholders, including Boards, Chief Executives, managers, team members, staff in partner agencies and key external stakeholders.
  • Flexibly responding to changes in priorities and demands for work, and undertakes effective risk management.
  • Ability to generate and adopt new and creative ways for assessing performance.
  • Briefed Ministers and Cabinet/Select Committees.
  • Experience assessing business and financial performance
