The purpose of the role

As Senior Advisor, Health Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) you are accountable for giving HSW advice to the organisation and its leadership.  Including researching, designing, testing and implementing HSW solutions, initiatives, programmes and processes.

Specifically, the functions of this role are to exercise a range of HSW practitioner skills and expertise to support the People and Culture team create a proactive HSW culture as agreed by:

  • Contributing to the design and implementation of effective intervention strategies to deal with significant occupational health, safety and wellbeing issues.
  • Providing expert advice and support to the People and Culture team, people leaders and workers.
  • Providing expert operational services to support the People and Culture team.

Person specifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • HSW related tertiary degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years experience in HSW theory and practice enough to provide robust advice and practice in Health Safety and Wellbeing (HS&W), and related legislation; preferably in the public service
  • Proven experience building, managing and delivering results through relationships (internal and external), networking, and connecting across a range of levels and functions
  • Successful relationship and influencing experience and skills, able to relate to all walks of life and create buy-in to embed processes and initiatives
  • Advanced communication skills (both written and verbal), able to professionally present sometimes complex information to a range of audiences through a range of mediums, up to and including Public Service reporting
  • Excellent experience in facilitation of work groups/committees, focus groups and workshops
