Senior Advisor, Implementation (2 full-time, permanent positions), National Office, Wellington

At Tāhū o te Ture – the Ministry of Justice – we work together for a fair and safe Aotearoa.

We’re seeking 2 Senior Advisors to join our Implementation team in the Commissioning and Service Improvement Unit (CSI). In CSI, we work to support the delivery of positive change in the justice system for a safe and fair Aotearoa.

Our ideal candidate:

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to articulate complex messages clearly, simply and concisely
  • Strong knowledge of the justice sector. If you have direct experience working in the court or tribunal environment, then that would be a real advantage
  • Operational policy experience or knowledge of the legislative process
  • Experience working in a project management environment
  • A can-do attitude, and the ability to plan and drive your own workload as part of our broader work programme
  • The desire to mentor and support others in our team and play an active role in continuing to develop our collective skills and experience.

About the team

The Implementation team works closely with the Ministry’s Policy Group to implement policy  and legislative changes agreed by Parliament. We work on a range of different issues that impact how NZ justice services operate day to day, and how participants experience the justice system. The mahi we do has a big impact on how people experience our justice system, often at one of the most vulnerable times of their lives.

Some of our current projects include supporting recent changes made to the use of firearms in NZ, providing better support to victims of sexual violence during the court process, and implementing upcoming law changes for the Contempt of Court Act.

About the position

As a senior advisor in the Implementation team, you’ll lead the implementation of policy and legislative change. This is a varied role, involving process design and development, interpreting legislation, developing project plans, identifying system changes, and preparing communications content for the Judiciary, senior leaders, front-line staff, and participants in the justice system. Your work will involve understanding how new legislation impacts on our front-line services and working closely with those teams to prepare them for any changes to how they deliver their services to our customers.

The breadth of our work and the impact it has will give you lots of variety and challenge and will give you a sense of making a genuine difference to the lives of everyday kiwis. As the successful applicant you will have the opportunity to manage unique stakeholder relationships, including with Judges and Senior Managers, and staff across the Ministry.

Although the team’s based at our National Office in Wellington, we’re open to the right candidate working from another location provided you can travel to Wellington frequently.

The salary range for the role is $83,219 – $117,485 depending on skills and experience.
