About the role:

Are you looking for the opportunity to make your mark on an expanding programme of work supporting New Zealand’s border and national security?

This fixed term role is in the Irregular Migration Programme Team in Immigration New Zealand. The Team’s role is to provide specialist advice, and deliver projects and initiatives both domestically and internationally in order to address the risk of irregular migration to New Zealand.

As a Senior Advisor, you will specifically work to develop operational policies and procedures that govern New Zealand’s international co-operation on preventing people smuggling. Additionally, you will work on the development and implementation of New Zealand’s Plan of Action against People Trafficking and Forced Labour.

This is a great opportunity to put your relationship management skills to the test, working collaboratively across Immigration New Zealand branches, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) units, and with external domestic and international stakeholders. Your proven experience in providing operational policy advice, and managing projects and initiatives will enable you to lead and manage activities that make a difference to New Zealand.

What you will bring to the role:

As a Senior Advisor, you’ll have a minimum of five years’ experience working with senior officials in an advisory or support capacity. You’ll be highly organised and self-motivated, exercise good judgement and know when to take the lead or check in with others on work that may be ambiguous.

We are keen to hear from you if you:

  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification
  • Have previous experience in policy analysis and advice
  • Have knowledge of and/or experience in operational policy and planning
  • Can quickly establish and build professional working relationships of trust and confidence with internal and external stakeholders
  • Can work effectively in a cross-cultural environment
  • Are a New Zealand Citizen, or hold a residence class visa
  • Have an existing SECRET or TOP SECRET national security clearance
