    The Planning Performance and Governance (PPG) team sits within Maritime NZ’s Organisational Strategy and Systems business group which leads, partners and supports Maritime NZ’s core purpose as the national maritime regulatory, compliance and response agency. 

    The PPG team manages a range of functions from enterprise planning, performance and reporting processes, to risk and assurance, business continuity, business improvement, and governance support to the Maritime NZ Board.

    The position

    Working closely with the Manager PPG, the Senior Advisor is responsible for ensuring that Maritime NZ’s enterprise planning, performance monitoring and accountability mechanisms are fit for purpose and carried out effectively. Day to day, the role will work closely with the Advisor Planning and Performance which is a newly established position, and will:

    · Ensure that Maritime NZ meets its statutory government and Board reporting requirements through the development of the Statement of Intent, Statement of Performance Expectations, Quarterly and Annual Reports.

    · Lead the development and implementation of enterprise business planning processes.

    · Ensure the corporate performance framework and reporting processes and systems are managed effectively.

    · Work closely with the Manager PPG to manage and oversee the accountability relationship with the Ministry of Transport.

    The role has considerable scope to provide advice and thought leadership across the business and provides opportunity to own and drive core activity as well as improvement initiatives.

    Our ideal candidate will bring:

  • In depth understanding of machinery of government, cross agency and Crown entity accountability processes including experience in the preparation of government accountability documents and internal reporting documents.
  • Experience in a complex public sector agency and/or a regulatory environment.
  • Strong ability to write, analyse and summarise complex information and an ability to present information and ideas to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and improve, implement and support corporate planning, reporting and performance systems, practices, and processes.
  • Collaborative approach, with excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to influence.
  • Strong relationship management skills, including building trust and confidence, to a senior level.
  • Critical thinking and analysis skills.
  • Initiative, adaptability, and motivation to drive work through to completion.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
