  • Want to be part of a talented, dynamic team working at the system level of planning for emergencies?
  • Are you interested in being part of a once in a generation opportunity to move our national emergency management approach forward?

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership to New Zealand’s distributed emergency management system. NEMA’s primary focus is on the performance and capability of the emergency management system as a whole, across all hazards and all risks and the 4 Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery. We are going through an exciting phase of growth and there will be more opportunities with NEMA over the coming months.

The Planning Team, within the Analysis and Planning business unit, is a small, passionate, highly influential team that is accountable for developing, maintaining and evaluating the strategic national emergency management planning framework (and supporting doctrine) and response emergency management planning and guidance under the National Security System.

With the team continuing to grow, there are multiple and rewarding opportunities within the Planning team available, which will continue to support and enable the NEMA to grow as an organisation:

  • Senior / Advisor, Response Planning (2x roles)
  • Senior / Advisor, Strategic Planning (1x role)
  • Senior / Advisor, COVID-19 Response Planning (18-months fixed term)

The Senior or Advisor, Response Planning is a full time permanent role within the Planning Team to support the Agency’s national and regional response planning, including for Hikurangi earthquake and tsunami; Alpine Fault earthquake, Wellington earthquake, and volcanic emergencies.

This exciting role will provide an opportunity to connect and engage with all agencies and public, private, and non-government organisation sectors, that have a role to play in emergency management to enable planning across the 4Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response, and recovery from emergencies.

You will also have a very hands-on role during emergencies as a member of the NEMA Duty Team and fulfilling an operational role during activations of the NEMA National Coordination Centre and/or National Crisis Management Centre.

If you are interested in being part of a team that is passionate and committed to building New Zealand’s disaster risk management and resilience, this is the role for you!
