About the Waste Minimisation Fund

Te Pūtea Whakamauru Para (the Waste Minimisation Fund) funds projects that promote or achieve waste minimisation.  We work with the community and business sector to support projects that are working to end our take, make, use and dispose culture and help move New Zealand to a circular economy.

The circular economy is a global concept that represents a big change in thinking.  The idea is that products are designed from the start to last a long time and be easily repaired, or to be ‘unmade’ after use and the materials either made into something new or returned to nature – all without creating pollution or greenhouse gas emissions.

About Us

The Ministry’s purpose – he whenua mana kura mō te tangata – is to make New Zealand the most liveable place in the world.

Our people tell us the ‘top five’ things they love about MfE are:

  • how friendly and supportive the people are
  • the shared passion for the environment
  • the variety of challenging, meaningful work
  • working with smart talented colleagues they can learn from, and
  • our flexible approach to work.

We support flexible approaches to work to ensure that we have the best person for the role.  This is a great time to be part of an agency delivering on its commitment to flexible working as well as diversity and inclusion.
