At Immigration New Zealand we are proud of our critical role in both growing and protecting New Zealand.  As the strategic environment has evolved so has our strategy, as we maintain an unwavering focus on being a trusted steward of the immigration system.

In order to strike the right balance in line with our new strategy, we realigned our organisational structure.  New positions have been created, with emphasis on strategic alignment, service delivery, and risk.  This new structure will contribute to the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment’s purpose of growing New Zealand for All, and goal of being a world leading regulatory steward.

We are seeking people with proven strategic agility, experience in operating in high performing teams, a commitment to innovation and a willingness to understand the balance between facilitating immigration and ensuring compliance.

We are currently looking for Senior Business Advisors, reporting to a Business Support Manager within Immigration New Zealand Group. The Senior Business Advisor plays an important advisory role that forms part of the senior leadership support structure.  As Senior Business Advisor, you will contribute to the strategic and operational success of the branch; contributing to the strategic overview for the leadership team; providing policy advice on a variety of operational risk based issues; supporting and contributing to business planning and reporting and being a key contact between the branch and others within MBIE.

What you will need to bring

We are looking for a high performer with an in-depth knowledge of the machinery of government and government planning and accountability.  You will be passionate about the difference your work makes to governance and management and be well versed in the nuance of working with state sector processes to achieve outcomes.  Being comfortable working in ambiguous environments and achieving results through applying critical thinking will be a huge advantage.

Ideally, you will bring the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent writing skills.
  • A team player with strong communication skills based on a collaborative approach
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with people at all levels both within and outside of MBIE.
  • Committed to driving continuous improvement through all aspects of work.
  • Competence in providing advice and managing risk at a strategic and operational level.
  • Experience in planning, reporting (internal and external), and/or governance roles.
  • Must have a legal right to live and work in NZ.
  • A strong working knowledge and understanding of INZ would be an advantage.
