About the Historic Claims Group

 

MSD is responsible for the Historic Claims process.  The Historic Claims team work with people who have been abused in State care, in particular the care of Child, Youth and Family and its predecessors, to address their concerns without them needing to resort to civil litigation.

 

The Claims Assessment team evaluates information relevant to a claimant’s time in state care and provides recommendations to support decision making.

 

About the role:

 

The Senior Claims Advisor will provide analysis, advice and support for the Historic Claims assessment team to support the resolution of claims. The Senior Claims Advisor works closely with the Lead Claims Advisor to provide advice and guidance on specific technical aspects of claims assessment criteria and process.

 

The role contributes to the overall knowledge growth of the Claims team by maintaining and sharing knowledge of historical policies and practices relevant to the claims assessment process to ensure appropriate robust recommendations. The role will complete complex case assessments and is also expected to identify opportunities for continual improvement and develops any recommendations for approval.

 

To be successful in this role you will possess the following skills and experience include:

 

  • Highly developed analytical skills and a demonstrated commitment to developing and maintaining specialist skills and knowledge in own area of expertise
  • Comprehensive experience at a senior level in an analytical and/or advisory role
  • Demonstrated experience in transferring knowledge to others
  • The ability to demonstrate empathy & emotional intelligence in a complex environment
  • Highly effective communication skills
  • Ability to produce and recognise high quality policy work and provide peer support and coaching to colleagues
  • A sound knowledge of the machinery of government.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification desirable in the fields of Research and Evaluation, Social Work and/or Law
  • In-depth knowledge of how the child protection system operated in Child Welfare Division, the Department of Social Welfare, or Child, Youth and Family is desirable
 

Your ability to work with a diverse range of individuals to support them to make objective unbiased recommendations is critical.

The remuneration band for this position is from $80,8814 to $101,104 based on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
