The Collection Operations branch is at the forefront of sustainable data sourcing from businesses and households across NZ.  The Design Team is a integral function that reports to the Field Collections Senior Manager. This integrated Design team are experts in the on-the-ground practical world of data collections.  Much of the Team s work will inform the future Survey Collection Approaches that they will design / create.  The Design Team will consult within Collection Operations and engage with our Stakeholders and the wider-organisation when they are creating these future Collection Approaches, processes and systems.  


The purpose of the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Analyst with advanced technical and analytical skills to join our Design team.  The team will engage internally within Collection Operations and organisational-wide to provide their expertise on projects and initiatives that impact and affect Field Collections.  They will also look within our Business Unit to identify areas that require modernising and transforming.   

This is a dynamic role which will see you working with a wide range of individuals from your direct team, the leadership team and the wider business.  You must be a confident communicator, easily able to build rapport with a diverse range of people, provide appropriate feedback where necessary, and be flexible and adaptable within an ever-changing agile environment.


 As a Senior Collections Analyst, you will:

  • Pro-actively co-ordinate, develop and implement initiatives that advance data sourcing while adding value and create sustainable data collection
  • Conduct strategic assessments of the operational and financial impacts of existing and proposed collection designs
  • Undertake advanced data collection analysis, data mining, and research into survey operational data and Para data
  • Develop papers in assistance with the team to delve into the meta-data, para-data and survey-data of our past and present to understand the data collections world better than we ever have.
  • Utilise your technical skills on a day to day basis – SAS, SQL, R programming, and advanced analysis techniques
  • Provide support to the Design team and the wider leadership team and other operational areas by ways of leading initiatives, providing smart analysis, and technical advice
  • Liaise and build relationships across the Collection Operations management and operational teams.
  • Have good organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to achieve deadlines and quality standards


Person specifications

To be successful in this role you ll need to be enthusiastic, driven, and able to hit the ground running.  As an ideal candidate you will have skills and experiences in: 

  • Advanced technical, research and analysis (e.g. SAS, SQL, R, Python or similar programming software for data analysis and modelling)
  • Good interpersonal skills, excellent report writing and verbal communication skills, and ability to interact across all levels within the organisation
  • Experience in leading research and/or project teams and managing their work program
  • A tertiary qualification at degree level preferably in mathematics, statistics, economics, accountancy, data or computer science
  • A minimum of 7 years relevant experience
  • Ability to learn on the job while working with new systems and software
  • Quick learner, adaptable, flexible and a self-starter.
