Senior Communications Advisor, Family Violence and Sexual Violence 6 months fixed term

Closing date 18 March 2020

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a Senior Communications Advisor who’ll play a key role in reviewing, testing and updating our digital content and publications to ensure they meet the needs of people affected by family violence and sexual violence.

This is a six-month fixed term contract, based in our National Office in Wellington.

As well as operating the court system, our Ministry is involved in a wide range of initiatives to reduce crime, keep people safe and improve justice services.

We provide information to all New Zealanders via our web sites, social media channels and printed publications. So, we need:

  • a plain-language champion who loves explaining things clearly and simply
  • an advocate for putting users first, capable of engaging with our audiences to test content
  • a person who is knowledgeable about family violence and sexual violence issues, and the dynamics that underpin these forms of violence
  • an inquiring mind who unpicks problems to figure out what’s really needed
  • a highly organised person who’s comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines.

A large focus of the role is on reviewing our current content in partnership with relevant audiences, to assess any gaps or opportunities for improvement. You’ll also help identify the potential for information to be presented in innovative ways so that different population groups get the right information at the right time, in the form they want and via the channels they use, both online and offline.

This project forms part of wider work the Ministry is doing in partnership with other government agencies and communities to implement new legislation, and better meet the needs of New Zealanders affected by violence.

If this sounds like you, come join us! Working at the Ministry of Justice gives you the chance to make a real difference. Our Comms team is a vibrant group of people from many different backgrounds and experiences – what we have in common is we all care deeply about justice and playing our part in ensuring a safe and just New Zealand.
