  • Summary:

We are looking for a senior practitioner to lead media relations for the Ministry and drive our proactive media programme.

Public and media interest in environmental issues is at an all time high. Our research tells us that around 80% of New Zealanders want to learn more about the environment through the news media.

People want to know more – and here at the Ministry, we have evidence, facts and information that can help shape the debate.

We need you, to bring these two together and deliver a compelling programme of proactive media that goes beyond the headlines and adds breadth and depth to the public debate.

In this role, you’ll be our in-house media guru, developing effective strategies for teams across the Ministry, and advising on media trends.

You’ll have excellent connections to the New Zealand news media, a solid understanding of their world and what makes a great content.

You’ll know the impact of your work through a sophisticated programme of monitoring, evaluation and analysis that you turn into valuable insight for teams across the Ministry.

Working alongside a team of communications professionals, you will be the first port of call for media enquiries. And as a solid all rounder, you’ll also be able to lead on various communications projects as needed.

We want to hear from you if you:

  • get what the media needs and how to pitch a great story
  • have strong political acumen and a nose for risk and opportunity
  • can turn analysis into business insight
  • are an awesome writer, who can tailor your craft for different audiences and in different voices
  • have an understanding of Te Ao Maori
  • work at pace
  • are happy rolling your sleeves up and getting involved where you are needed
