Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The purpose of this role is to apply a risk-based approach to addressing non-compliance where public safety could be at risk. Our focus is to ensure commercial drivers and operators are fully compliant resulting in a safer transport system.

The opportunity presents itself as Waka Kotahi has recently revitalised its regulatory services and is increasing staffing numbers and capabilities in line with this direction. This includes how we act on non-compliance.

You will investigate commercial driver licence and endorsement holders and produce reports to improve driver behaviour and compliance through monitoring or drivers license sanctions to reduce risk, and may be used in Court proceedings. 

In addition, you will provide expert advice to stakeholders and undertake follow-up action where non-compliance is identified.

Travel is a likely part of this role.  So, you must have a Full Driver license, with no convictions.

Entry level candidates with some regulatory knowledge and/or experience, will also be considered at a Compliance Officer level.

To be successful in this role you will bring

  • Knowledge of the regulatory profession including investigations, auditing, interviewing and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of the transport industry will be advantageous.
  • Passion and aptitude to work in a regulatory environment.
  • The ability to develop workable solutions to problems using a range of analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to understand and apply technical information and apply it in an operational context.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including effective presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to write professional reports to a high standard.
  • Able to use Microsoft Word and Excel to an intermediate level.
  • Strong relationship building skills and the ability to relate well, create rapport and build credibility.
  • Excellent influencing skills.
  • Able to apply a systematic and methodical approach to work.
  • Able to demonstrate perseverance to achieve and exceed goals.

     Qualification

  • A post graduate qualification is preferable or proven work experience in a similar work environment.
