About the role

Would you like to work alongside the best developers in their field, with some of the latest cloud technology and DevOps techniques?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Developer experienced in developing continuous delivery pipelines and software tools to automate cloud-based solutions.

Based in Wellington, you will be a permanent part of the of the Small Business Systems team. You will collaborate with a cross-functional, agile project team, and help build new applications that will ensure our education system is equipped to achieve the Ministry’s vision. Our goal is to create modern solutions in Azure in a highly automated fashion. You will write software to deploy, monitor, and maintain Ministry cloud applications.

 

About you

You have 5+ years of experience in programming at a senior level, and a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience. You have experience with the Microsoft Azure technologies used throughout the software development lifecycle: source control using Git; building with Azure DevOps; deployment using ARM templates; and monitoring with Application Insights.

You’ll bring:

  • Hands-on experience automating infrastructure in the Microsoft Azure cloud
  • Practical experience with infrastructure-as-code using languages like PowerShell, YAML, ARM, and JSON
  • Extensive experience programming web applications and REST APIs in ASP.NET
  • A solid understanding of networks and protocols like TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP and SSL
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodology and tooling, including continuous integration and continuous delivery
  • A strong desire to automate processes, build software tools, and create infrastructure-as- code solutions in a DevOps environment
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical abilities

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Automating and supporting infrastructure in Azure with infrastructure-as-code solutions
  • Working with developers, architects, product owners, and sys-admins to understand their platform needs.
  • Building software tools to enable developer productivity.
  • Researching, planning and implementing best practices and constant improvements of our build and deployment processes.
  • Delivering documentation, training, and mentoring the development team.
  • Monitoring and responding to incidents, outages, security, and scaling issues.
  • Defining, measuring and reporting progress, and helping the success of the application.
  • Ensuring the development team is working on the best infrastructure and following the most efficient practices.
