What you will doAs a Senior Environmental Officer (Planning), you will become an integral part of the Environmental Services team and will provide advice on a wide range of statutory planning matters related to the Defence Estate. You will also provide advice and oversight and planning around the environmentally responsible management of the Defence Estate (nationwide). This is a fixed term opportunity ending October 2022.A typical day in this role could include:Advising on, facilitating and developing large statutory planning and environmental programmes/projects;Travelling to various Defence sites domestically;Providing advice to NZDF personnel and liaising with external stakeholders;Mentoring and coaching junior staff; andEngaging with consultants and developing reports. Please note: There is a requirement to travel around New Zealand so a clean Class 1 drivers licence is needed.What we needTo be successful in this role, you will bring extensive experience in environmental, resource management and/or planning positions within a large, diverse organisation. Your exceptional communication skills, coupled with your ability to deal with complex issues and apply problem solving techniques will be key to your success.You will also have:A strong understanding of New Zealand’s environmental legislation (technical), environment management systems and associated environmental matters;Extensive programme and project management knowledge and experience;Well-developed negotiation and influencing skills; andWorking knowledge of the structure and operation of both local and regional councils (administrative).Who we areThe Defence Estate & Infrastructure (DEI) Environment Services (ES) team provides advice, oversight and planning in relation to NZDF’s environmentally responsible management of its property.The team is responsible for ensuring that management of the Defence Estate complies with all resource consents, relevant legislation and government policy.Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.
