The Serious Fraud Office is a highly specialised government department responsible for the investigation and prosecution of serious or complex financial crime, including bribery and corruption. We take pride in the work we do to keep New Zealand safe from financial crime.
The SFO seeks an accomplished lawyer to join our Commercial Bay, Auckland CBD team as Senior Lawyer. This is a permanent full-time position.
In this role you will report to our Deputy General Counsel and apply advanced technical legal knowledge to ensure that the General Counsel Team provides effective support to our investigation teams, and non-investigative legal advice and support to the SFO’s business functions. You will assist in the management of official information and privacy requests and ensure SFO policies and practices adhere to current legal requirements. Additionally, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of our best practice and competency frameworks for our lawyers and assist with training.
To be successful in this role you will hold a current Practicing Certificate, and we imagine you will have five years’ or more of post qualification experience. Of greater importance is the nature of your experience. You will have extensive experience in applying the substantive and procedural elements of the criminal law, including disclosure requirements, have effective legal research and analysis skills, and have ability to communicate your findings and advice in plain English. Our preference is you have a background in financial services law or experience in financial crime investigations and prosecutions, and additionally have a working knowledge of civil procedure. You will be collaborative and have an ability to quickly understand facts and complexities to form sound advice.
