The Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E) Group exists to radically improve road safety, workplace health and safety and the environmental performance of the New Zealand land transport system.

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

Reporting to the General Manager, Safety, Health and Environment, as our Senior Manager Road Safety role you will be responsible for being the thought leader for Road Safety in New Zealand driving the understanding and implementation of the Safe System approach and establish a clear strategic direction for our road safety function. You will influence and drive initiatives, research and consult with world leaders in this space, keeping the Agency well ahead of emerging and current methods for reducing NZ DSI’s (Death and Serious Injuries) on our road network.

In this role you will be our front face on road safety and you will be the person that is recognised as the subject matter expert and thought leader for this area. In addition, you will be our key ministerial and Board liaison for road safety.

We are a diverse team so it is essential that you are a people-centric person with sound interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong rapport and positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Your experience in leading a team and influencing and negotiating with senior and executive level stakeholders is essential. You will need to bring a focus on collaboration, customer focus and well-honed curiosity to the Agency.

  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Tertiary Health and Safety qualification (minimum IOSH) Diploma preferably at a post-graduate level
