The Corporate Governance and Intellectual Property team, along with the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand, are the stewards of the intellectual property system. From copyright to patents, plant variety rights to trademarks, we work with domestic and international stakeholders, Māori, other government agencies (particularly MFAT and TPK) and international bodies (such as the World Intellectual Property Organisation) to ensure our policy settings serve the interests of all New Zealanders. We are also responsible, along with our MFAT colleagues, for ensuring that New Zealand’s position is well represented on the international stage, both in free trade negotiations and the development of international treaties.
About the role
As part of the team, you will:
You will be joining a team of seven other policy advisors in a team with a supportive and collegial work culture, within an organisation that values and empowers people at all stages of their policy career. We like to work collaboratively, valuing the diversity of ideas the team can bring. And we prioritise building good relationships both across and outside government, including with our Treaty partners, because we believe that understanding and respecting a wide range of perspectives leads to the best policy outcomes.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an experienced senior policy advisor with a proven track record in the delivery of policy and legislative projects. You will have strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills, supported by excellent communication skills. Ideally, you will also have experience in Māori engagement. Experience in intellectual property and an understanding of te ao Māori and how IP can protect traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expression would be an advantage.
