We have a permanent opportunity for an experienced Senior Policy professional to join the Communications Policy team! We have a great culture, we work collaboratively and come to solutions together. It puts a lot of focus on talking to our stakeholders, and understanding what is actually happening in the market. Everyone in the team has the opportunity to lead pieces of work and contribute to the discussion.

Access to high quality, reliable telecommunications services is critical.

We provide advice on whether our mobile and broadband networks are available, responsive to consumers and encourage innovation and investment. We participate in international fora to give the New Zealand perspective about the best model for internet governance. We also provide advice on network security issues and postal policy.

Key projects:

  • We are thinking about the longer term challenges and opportunities for telecommunications, particularly its role in New Zealand’s economic recovery
  • We are thinking about the role of government in the future of New Zealand’s connectivity
  • We are looking at the strategic repositioning of New Zealand postal services given the decreasing reliance on physical mail
  • We will be working in international organisations such as the International Telecommunications Union to advocate for New Zealand’s perspective on internet governance.

We are looking for a motivated Senior Policy Advisor with experience in problem solving and formulating high-quality policy advice for a range of stakeholders, particularly complex and ambiguous projects.

Our ideal candidate will have proven experience in:

  • Leading complex policy projects within central government
  • Wide ranging knowledge of policy development disciplines and processes
  • Stakeholder relationship building, influencing and engagement skills to gain the cooperation and commitment of others
  • Demonstrated capability in working with Ministers, senior public service officials, internal and external stakeholders

  • The ability to work through ambiguity and deliver results
