The Animal Sector policy team works across New Zealand’s animal-based primary sectors, including meat, dairy, and wool, as well as newer and more niche industries. We work with stakeholders and government agencies to develop and implement policy initiatives to address complex problems. This includes legislative and regulatory frameworks that balance cooperation and competition to support dynamic efficiency, growth and development in the primary sectors. Current strategic projects for the team include investigating the legislative settings necessary to support animal genetic improvement, and reviewing regulatory barriers to e-commerce exports across all primary sectors.

We are looking for an experienced senior policy analyst to work primarily on the export e-commerce policy project, which aims to support the growth in export earnings from New Zealand’s primary sector by ensuring our regulatory systems enable e-commerce sales channels while maintaining robust export assurance controls that meet both the New Zealand government’s and our trading partners’ requirements. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to a diverse and talented project team, as well as leading work within the team.

We are an exciting, vibrant and fast-moving place to work and we are looking for someone who’ll thrive in this environment.
