The Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Directorate in the Policy and Trade Branch provides strategic policy advice and analysis on biosecurity and animal welfare.
We help ensure that our world-leading biosecurity system protects New Zealand’s economic, social, cultural, and environmental well-being from pests and diseases. We regulate the border and help ensure that domestic biosecurity responses have the tools they need.
We advise the government on animal welfare, and develop legislation and regulations on these issues.
