The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand has an opportunity for a Senior Press Secretary (Māori) to join their busy and driven team in Parliament.

As the Senior Press Secretary (Māori), you will create and develop communications with a specific focus on Māori communities, across all communication channels, including digital. You will bring your excellent communication skills and experience, with the ability to compose clear written communications for you to provide timely and quality information and advice to the Green Party Leaders’ and members of the Caucus.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Advice on media and public relations issues including campaigns and MP profiles
  • Assisting with media interviews and preparation for press releases, media messages, speeches and social media
  • Ensuring Māori focussed messaging across our channels, whilst also making mainstreams communications appropriate and accessible for Māori audience
  • Offering translation and interpretation, including prep for Māori MPs for te reo interviews
  • Identifying media opportunities and making the most of them for the Co-Leaders’ and MPs
  • Communication and relationship management; working closely with key media and stakeholders, ensuring they are informed of Green Party positions on topical issues
  • Work in collaboration with policy advisors, researchers and the press team to ensure MPs are supported
  • Identify media risks and work with the Leader, MPs and staff to prepare for or mitigate them.

Your strong leadership skills, great attitude and willingness to work hard will help you to succeed in this role as you become accustom to the ever-changing environment at Parliament. It goes without saying that you will have extensive experience in journalism, communications and/or public relations and an understanding of te ao Māori.

This exciting opportunity will offer you variety, challenge and will provide you with a unique insight into the political process and how Parliament operates.

The appointing salary band for this role is $75,000 to $95,000 per annum. Appointments will be based on your skills and experience.
