Due to internal promotions, The New Zealand Government Procurement & Property (NZGPP) branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has an exciting role that provide an experienced procurement and sourcing professional with the opportunity to utilise their skills to deliver commercial excellence on an All-of-Government scale.

The Senior Procurement Specialist is responsible for managing the engagement with agencies, suppliers and industry to achieve the best possible outcomes for government, while understanding the impact large scale procurement can have on market dynamics.

The successful applicant will have a broad understanding of supply markets and agency needs; be able to develop and execute sourcing strategies; and assist NZGPP drive competitive advantages for agencies, suppliers and government


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to critically analyse complex commercial and procurement situations and to recommend and design robust category strategies and solutions and manage approaches to market.
  • Demonstrated leading edge skills in strategic sourcing (RFP, negotiating and contracting)
  • Deliver high quality procurement documentation (Procurement Plan, RFX documentation and Recommendation reports)
  • Significant experience in influencing and negotiating with stakeholders, suppliers, and senior managers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated by credibility, personal or collaborative influence, managing expectations and targeted persuasion
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development and implementation of strategy plans, stakeholder engagement plans, approaches to market and procurement plans
