This role is part of a multi-skilled team and is expected to work with agility, within a culture of collaboration and innovation and one that takes a customer-centric approach. The nature of the work requires flexibility and adaptability in an environment that is, at times, reactive leading to a change in priorities.
The successful candidate will be a confident communicator and be able to work effectively across all levels of the council and with a range of stakeholders. This role is all about implementing a tactical, harm reduction approach to street homelessness and begging.

The successful candidate will also take an active role in the Emergency Welfare steering group. Our Welfare group supports a programme of work which ensures an effective response and recovery is delivered for people and animals during and following an emergency event.
We’re looking for someone with experience in increasing community safety and an understanding of the role of local government in community safety issues. Our ideal candidate will also have experience in/and knowledge of the community sector.
The Senior Safety Advisor will have strong relationship management skills and be expert at coordination and facilitation of collaborative working. We are looking for someone who can establish and maintain partnerships with central government agencies, community organisations, businesses and retailers and ensure a collective approach to city safety initiatives. They’ll also be a proactive problem solver, with the ability to identify issues, emerging trends and gaps and work with our partners to find solutions.
Due to the nature of this role some work may be required outside of normal office hours so flexibility in working hours is necessary. Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand and agree to a police background check.
