The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) plays a critical role in regulating capital markets and financial services in New Zealand and providing better outcomes for investors, consumers, professionals, businesses, and for the New Zealand economy.
As part of the General Counsel function within the FMA, our Enforcement team is responsible for all legal matters pertaining to FMA enforcement action in response to misconduct and contraventions of the law/professional standards within the financial markets. Due to an internal promotion, we now have an opportunity available in our Auckland office for a Senior Solicitor to join this team.
In this role, you’ll provide high quality legal advice and apply your expertise in relation to investigations, litigation and other enforcement action to ensure FMA’s enforcement goals are achieved, and that the enforcement function reinforces FMA’s reputation as a strong, effective, proactive and respected organisation.
This position is ideally suited to a senior solicitor from the public sector with enforcement experience or a litigator/ prosecutor in private practice. At least 8 years’ post admission experience, knowledge of the financial services industry and a current practising certificate (or entitlement to one) are prerequisites for the role. You will have a good working knowledge of civil procedure (essential) and criminal procedure (desirable) but it will be your drive, enthusiasm and adaptability that will allow you to truly excel in this role. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will be just as important as your technical abilities.
In return we’ll offer you a competitive salary and the chance to join a friendly, approachable team of highly experienced litigators and an organisation with a strong commitment to wellness and life/work balance.
